Commissionata da Antonio Chiarelli per il coro della Chiesa della SS. Trinità dei Cappuccini di Cento, la tela è firmata e datata sul retro. Maria, nel suo ruolo di tramite fra Dio e uomo, è raffigurata come una madre affettuosa che accompagna dolcemente il Bambino nel gesto benedicente. La luce fa emergere i corpi dallo sfondo, sottolineando il movimento lieve dei panneggi e i volti nobili e idealizzati. Sortisce effetti raffinati il particolare del vetro rotto della finestra, da cui sbuca un ritaglio di cielo.

Commissioned by Antonio Chiarelli for the choir of the Church of SS. Trinità dei Cappuccini in Cento, the painting is signed and dated on the rear. Mary, in her role as channel between God and Man, is depicted as a loving mother gently attending the Child in the gesture of the blessing. The light makes their figures stand out against the background, underscoring the gentle motion of the drapery, and their noble and idealised faces. The detail of the broken glass in the window, from which a parcel of sky peeks through, creates elegant effects.
